Local Resident, Richard Turner and his fellow Conservative team are pushing Lewes District Council to update residents on where the £70 million that was allocated to regenerate Newhaven has gone. £70 million of Levelling up  Funding was allocated by the previous Conservative Government to help regenerate the town in a once in a
generation effort. The plans  included; new fishing stages for fishing boats, a new medical centre, a refurbished car park in the town centre and the reopening of the UTC building as a start up hub for new businesses. Richard says, "Since we lost our Conservative MP, the regeneration plans for the town have gone flat. The only projects
that were completed are the ones championed by Maria Caulfield when she was our MP such as; the 4G pitch for the football club, the Fort renovation, the fishing hub on Avis way and securing the rights to the UTC building so it could reopen. Since then the Lib Dems, Labour and Green councillors have stalled in ensuring the medical
centre opens, that the new West Beech restaurant and play area work begins and the town centre plans emerge. To add insult to injury for Newhaven residents, LDC
councillors, including the Newhaven Lib Dem MP, have allowed the UTC to be used as cheap office accommodation for the council instead of for the new businesses that were promised
