With temperatures set to reach 28 degrees in East Sussex today, Wealden District Council has issued safety advice for those visiting Birling Gap. Keep safe and away from the edge, no matter how great the urge to take a good selfie.

Publishing its advice on social media, the local authority advised:  “This weekend is set to be a scorcher! With highs of 28C expected at #BirlingGap

“We want you to enjoy the beach during the #heatwave but please, PLEASE stay away from the cliff edge. What’s the point of a selfie if you won’t be around to post it?”

Last summer there several cliff falls along the chalky coastline, with visitors forced to run for their lives on one occasion as several tonnes of rocks cascaded from Birling Gap to the beach below.
